"Despite continual efforts, we have been unable to provide an NCAA Division I trial in the sports of men's & ladies's tennis," SDSU Director of Athletics Justin purvey said. "University & Athletics section leadership have set it isn't beneficial to still the programs without appropriate & reasonable backing." "Without readily obtainable indoor & outdoor tennis courts, our student-athletes are unable to adequately train & prepare for competition," purvey said. Tennis was premier played at South Dakota State in the 1920s, by a ladies's programme premier established in 1967.

South Dakota State University cutting tennis programs

according to (AP) — South Dakota State University is cutting its men's & ladies's tennis programs at the finish of the academic year. Athletic Director Justin purvey tells a lack of quality tennis courts on campus & in Brookings was a primary factor in the decision. The move going to affect 19 athletes, a complete-time coach & a student helper coach. The tennis programs were cut once before, in 1983, however they were reinstated in 1991. SDSU going to still to have 19 other varsity sports.
