Tennis fans watching a friendly match at Wimbledon were treated to some unexpected play when a male heckler was invited to put his own advice into practice and take on former professional Kim Clijsters. Clijsters was playing in an invitational doubles match Friday, when a spectator shouted that she should attempt a serve into the body of her opponent. With the crowd cheering him on, the fan, identified as Irishman Chris Quinn, managed to return a serve, much to the amusement of Clijsters. The former US and Australian Open champion then plucked the cheeky tennis fan from the crowd, before trussing him up in a white skirt and t-shirt to comply with Wimbledon's strict dress code.

The women were playing invitation doubles, a more relaxed event, when Belgium's four-time Grand Slam champion Kim Clijsters began soliciting serving advice from the stadium. Wimbledon fans were served a fit of laughter on Friday when a male tennis fan was invited to join an all-female match, but not before squeezing into a white skirt and top. Because his Green Lantern T-shirt and shorts were in clear violation of the event's strict all-white dress code, Clijsters retrieved a white skirt from her bag and helped him slip it over his shorts.

But Federer's win today over Marin Cilic and Williams' loss to Garbine Muguruza yesterday tell a story of innovation in modern tennis. If Venus invented big babe tennis, Serena perfected it. More than any other player of this generation, Venus Williams changed women's tennis for the better. Tennis has always been a young player's game, so to see a 35-year-old and a 37-year-old--Roger Federer and Venus Williams respectively--get to the Wimbledon finals is a rather shocking development. It's easy to forget, but Venus Williams really invented this style of play.
