Sky Sports have lost out on the rights to broadcast ATP tennis tournament events to American giants Amazon. Amazon also recently announced a deal with the NFL to broadcast Thursday night games in America. Italian Open, Canadian Open, Cincinnati Masters, Shanghai Masters, Paris Masters ATP World Tour Masters 500 Events: Rotterdam Open, Rio Open, Dubai Tennis Championships, Mexican Open, Barcelona Open, Queen's, Halle Open, German Open, Washington Open, China Open, Japan Open, Vienna Open, Swiss Indoors Plus the ATP World Tour finalsThe deal includes almost every major tournament played outside of the four major Grand Slams - including the high-profile season ending ATP World Tour finals in London. Sky recently rejigged their broadcast channel options which appeared to hint at their attitude towards tennis. Football, cricket and golf have their own channels, while tennis coverage is now shown on one of their two mixed-sports 'best of the rest' style channels.

Until now, Sky and the BBC have shared coverage of the ATP World Tour, a deal that ends in 2018. Alongside BT, the broadcaster paid a record £5.14 billion to secure rights to three top-flight seasons from 2016-17. The deal includes ATP World Tour Masters 1000 and Masters 500 events, which are hosted in places like Monte Carlo, Madrid, Paris, Miami, Indian Wells and Shanghai. Sky is rumoured to have paid £8 million for the privilege, but Amazon reportedly beat its rivals with a bid of around £10 million per year this time around. However, it also spent big to secure exclusive rights to all Formula One races until 2024 and continues to invest in cricket, golf, boxing and rugby.
